How does printed fabric differ from printed vinyl? +

Vinyl is a plastic sheet with the image on its surface, so it reflects light, creases permanently and cracks where it is folded. Fabric takes the dye into the fibre, giving a matte surface that absorbs light rather than bouncing it back at a camera, and it folds into a bag and recovers. Fabric is also PVC-free and far lighter to ship, which shows up in your freight costs. Vinyl still wins for hard outdoor banners that need to survive months of weather, but for exhibition and event use fabric is the better material.

When should I choose airmesh fabric? +

Airmesh is a perforated knit designed to let wind pass through it, which makes it the right choice for anything mounted outdoors — fence wraps, scaffold banners, barrier runs and building frontages. A solid fabric in the same position acts as a sail and puts real load on the fixings. The trade-off is that the perforations soften fine detail slightly, so scale your artwork up and avoid small type. Colour also appears a little lighter than on solid fabric because of the open structure.

What is ultra sheer fabric used for? +

Ultra Sheer Fabric Backdrop Printing produces a translucent, lightweight cloth that hangs in soft drapes and lets light through, which is why it is used for photography backdrops, layered set dressing, ceiling drapes and window displays. Because light passes through it, the material behind will influence the colour you see, and a dark wall behind a sheer panel will read very differently from a white one. Light it from the front for a solid look, or from behind for a glow.

What does fluorescent knitted polyester do that standard fabric cannot? +

Fluorescent inks on knitted polyester reach colours that sit outside the normal print range — the highly saturated pinks, oranges and greens that look almost lit from within. They come into their own under UV or blacklight at club nights, festivals and experiential activations, where a standard print goes flat. Bear in mind that fluorescent colours cannot be proofed accurately on an ordinary screen or a paper proof, so confirm the shade with us rather than judging it from a monitor.

Where does polyester taffeta work best? +

Taffeta is a thin, tightly woven polyester with a slight crispness, which makes it the usual choice for flags, bunting, sashes and lightweight hanging pieces that need to move in the air. It takes fine detail well and the low weight means a flag will fly in a modest breeze rather than hanging limp. It is not the material for a tensioned wall graphic, where a heavier knit holds shape better. Ask about the finish you need — hemmed, eyeleted or sleeved — when you order.

How should I supply artwork for digital fabric printing? +

Send vector artwork where possible, or raster files at a resolution that holds up at full size — large-format prints are viewed from a distance, so the resolution needed at 1m viewing distance is far lower than for print on paper. Supply files in CMYK, name your critical brand colours explicitly, and include a bleed plus any allowance for hems, pole pockets or silicone edging. Our team reviews every file free of charge and returns a free 2D mockup showing the artwork on the finished item.

Will the printed colour match my brand exactly? +

Very close, but a dyed textile behaves differently from ink on coated paper, and the weave itself scatters light in a way that shifts how a colour is perceived. Deep blacks and strong solid corporate blues are the two areas where people most often notice a difference. Tell us your reference colours in advance instead of assuming a screen match, and if an exact shade is critical for a large installation at a hall like NEC Birmingham, ask for a printed sample on the actual fabric before the full run.

How do I get creases out of printed fabric on site? +

Hang the piece as early in the build as you can — most travel creases drop out under the fabric's own weight within a few hours. For anything stubborn, a handheld steamer held slightly away from the surface works well; do not press a hot iron directly onto polyester, which can glaze or mark the finish. Tensioned graphics are the easy case, since stretching the fabric into the frame pulls the creases flat by itself. Roll rather than fold for future transport and the problem largely disappears.
